Gerald S. Lippes - donor

They loved the arts. They supported their alma mater. They believed in giving back. Just before her untimely death, Sandra F. Lippes, B.A. 1984, and her husband, distinguished attorney Gerald S. Lippes, J.D. 1964, demonstrated their love and support with a generous gift to the University at Buffalo. The result is an interdisciplinary graduate degree program in arts management that will be unique for its curriculum, which integrates the study of the arts with professional programs in law and management.

Lippes, a 1964 graduate of the UB Law School, is founder and managing partner of the law firm Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP. He has served on the University Council since 1997, is a trustee emeritus of the UB Foundation, former chair of the Dean's Advisory Council of the Law School, and a 1995 recipient of the Jaeckle Award, the highest honor presented by the law school and the UB Law Alumni Association. In addition, he served as a member of the National Campaign Steering Committee for the recently completed and highly successful "Campaign for UB: Generation to Generation."

Mrs. Lippes, who graduated from UB in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in psychology had been a nurse, interior designer, and environmentalist. After her career as a registered nurse at Women and Children's Hospital, Mrs. Lippes became co-owner of an interior design firm. An active community volunteer, Mrs. Lippes, who died in May 2004, had been involved in environmental causes and women's rights issues.
